Generation Z: Characteristics, Values and their Impact on Modern Society

Who is part of “Gen Z”?
The newest Generation Z includes young people born between 1997 and 2012 and is also the first generation to have been born in full technological progress, which means that their access to information is much higher than previous generation’s.
Generation Z, or “Gen Z” in short, succeeds millennials (or generation Y) and precedes Generation Alpha.
Generation Z is considered the “generation of the sensitive”
Gen Z is considered the “generation of the sensitive” because it focuses on social issues and creating a healthy lifestyle.

Many young people are increasingly choosing to stay in a comfort zone of a small group of friends with the same passions, habits or goals, and much of their social activity is virtual.
Among the interests of this generation are healthy eating and sports, often encouraging those around them to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Gen Z has grown with technology
The young people of this new generation adapt to changes much faster and are more receptive to the information they receive. At the same time, they have a better knowledge of technology and manage to learn more easily how to use technology to their advantage.
The fact that this generation was born in the full technological process makes young people extremely curious and attracted by news of any king: whether we talk about social media platforms, applications, devices or innovations.
Is Generation Z dependent on social media?
“Z” is the first generation to associate the Internet with daily routines. Moreover, most young people have grown up in a world where Social Media is an inseparable part of their lives. They have never known an existence outside of follows, likes and views.

Generation Z is an online generation, for sure. However, some platforms are beginning to be unable to keep up with it, the most powerful example being Facebook, which is losing ground to Instagram, Snapchat or TikTok platforms. Why? It is very simple, it is much more prone to consume and create visual content, leaving behind strenuous texts.
Z is the generation that has always had access to the smartphone and for which connectivity is no longer a possibility, but a reality.
As several studies show worldwide, the Generation Z young people increasingly want to be entrepreneurs, to start their own business.

The difference between Millennials and Gen Z is that, although both have created a goal to create their own business, the latter is much more focused on this aspect. Moreover, Gen Z focuses on both studies and experience and professional evolution, which is why we see that most students combine studies with work.
Can Generation Z be a corporate generation?
Generation Z’s young people focus a lot on doing more activities to fill their day and increase their incomes, this generation being even a corporate one.
Many young people opt for a corporate job with a fixed schedule, usually between 08:00 and 17:00. With a solid foundation and knowledge of a lot of information in many fields, employers tend to employ Gen Zs.

What should employers know about Generation Z?
Ambition, determination and perseverance are their strengths, which means that the employer of a “Z’er” must expect opinions, ideas to take into account. The flexibility of the working hours is also of great interest to young employees, in case of a fixed-schedule job. And the remuneration must be correspond to the work done. Most of the time, a Z’er will express his opinion on this, coming up with solid arguments.
